Dr. Tarisi Vunidilo’s Pacific Island Dance Class Performance
Mahalo to all of my kumus who helped lead to where I am today, especially my Hawaiian studies and anthropology department professors. I will be forever grateful for the classes that challenged me to push myself physically, mentally, and spiritually. Without hula, I would have still been stuck in my shell and afraid to use my voice. Ukulele classes taught me the importance of having something to turn to in the darkest hour. My departmental classes taught me about the power of agency.
I would like to thank my family for supporting my desire to transfer universities and move across the ocean, my friends back home for visiting me, and my friends on the island for helping me.
My favorite memories of UH are performing in International Nights and Pāʻina Pani Kau, talking story with my professors, and volunteering at Merrie Monarch!
