I would like to thank the Academy for this great honor. And my family, my friends, my peers, and my professors. I could not have done it without you. To Bob and Ann, you two are amazing. Truly. You made this all possible for me and it will forever mean the world to me. To my parents, my sisters, and my niece, knowing you have been there for me even from far away has been such a huge comfort and motivation. Thank you for listening to me talk about rocks and math even when you don't know what I am saying. I love you all.
A lesson from sediment entrainment and transport: For sediment of all sizes, from clay sized up to boulder sized, the energy required to initially lift and entrain the sediment is greater than the energy required to keep the sediment in transport. It takes more energy to start the process than it does to keep it going. This is true for a lot of things in life, not just for rocks.
Best wishes!
P.S., What a long, strange trip it's been.
