Community Service Day at Hoʻola Hou Iā Kalauao – a traditional Hawaiian agricultural enclave – symbolizes resilience and cultural endurance, offering life benefits and a connection to nature, crucial in the face of urban sprawl. It embodies sustainable practices vital for the future, reaffirming the lifeblood of Hawaiʻi’s heritage.

Visiting my parents, David & Lily Guzman, at their home in Guåhan (Guam). I am endlessly grateful to my parents for their love, support, and care. They encouraged my sane dreams and adventures. Their unwavering belief in me provided a strong foundation, instilling in me the determination, persistence, and invaluable life lessons that have brought me here today.

At 58, I never imagined myself here, yet this journey has been one of the most fulfilling of my life. I am endlessly grateful to my family for believing in me, to my professors and counselors for guiding me, and to my classmates for inspiring me. Leeward reminded me that dreams don’t expire and that learning has no age limit. To my fellow graduates and future graduates: embrace each chapter ahead with courage. And remember—life doesn’t wait, so shape it, chase it, and never stop believing in yourself.
