Honolulu Community College 2020-2021 Commencement Celebration Personal Messages
Words of Encouragement
All is Well Always! No matter how long it takes and what you are going through, you are still able to attain greatness. When you fall, never take failure as defeat, always think positive and take it as a lesson. Keep getting up, and keep fighting forward. Don't forget to live in the moment so you don't miss the fruits (happiness) of your life!

One thing a friend of mine shared with me was this:
“When you’re feeling down and discouraged about how long it is taking to get your degree, stop and think of where you will be in the next 5-10 years. Whether you take two years or twenty years to finish your degree you will still age the same no matter what. So you need to stop and think if you want be be 35 without your degree or 35 with your degree”.
It’s little motivation like this from friends and family that has made me push myself harder than before so that I can reach new and unimaginable heights and I can’t wait to see where I will be five years from now.
— Nicole Christina Lee
Never be afraid to fail. Failure is the stepping stone to success.
— Jeremy Movick
“Feed your faith, and your fears will starve.”
— Michelle Amanda Csigi
To future students, my best advice is to get your priorities in check with YOU being first on the list. Mental health is crucial to cater to. Without you, there is no efficiency in getting through classes. Utilize the CARE Program if need be. They contacted me multiple times overtime but I finally sought their help in Fall 2020, and it was amazing! Do not wait like I did. If you think no one believes in you, I do, and so does the CARE Program.

Education is the key to a great future.
Everyone heard this a million times, and its not wrong. However, they never said how to get that education. You can go to a four year university, or a community college, or from working right after high school. There are numerous places that we can learn something that we strive to do ourselves. We do it everyday by watching YouTube videos.
So who said we needed a college degree to be successful?
Your time is limited, so don't waste it by living someone else's life. Don't let the noise of others' opinion drown out your own inner voice. Most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and your dreams.
Be the example that you always look up too.
— Kristofel Ellazar Abella
You can do anything that you put your mind into. It's not going to be easy, but you got to persevere through it. Go for it because it's either now or never. Time is short to be worrying about things that are out of your control. It's more than just a degree. It's all about the experience, memories, and relationships that you make. If you love what you do, you're going to be all fine. Always settle for the best, never any less!
— Charlmer Santos
“You should enjoy the little detours. To the fullest. Because that’s where you’ll find the things important than what you want.”

Listen to your own voice, your own soul, too many people listen to the noice of the world, instead of themselves. Deep inside, you know what you want, let no one decide that for you.

“Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete? Proving nature's laws wrong, it learned to walk without having feet. Funny, it seems to by keeping its dreams; it learned to breathe fresh air. Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else even cared.”
― Tupac Shakur, The Rose That Grew from Concrete
Keep going. for yourself, if not for anyone else.

"Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today."
― Malcolm X
I think this inspiring quote holds true to all forms of education. It doesn't matter where you learned it, when you learned it, or how you learned it; Be it from a university, job training, family, friends, summer program, or a community college, All that matters is that you did it.
— Bryson Spencer Valdez Manuel

To end this off, I would like to say, "you have to fight through some bad days, in order to earn the best day of your life."
— Dennis Diric Daquioag Jr
There will be times you stumble and fall...those who stick around to help you out when you need them most, the ones who'll gladly offer you a bowl of soup in a rainy storm, ones who'll stick around and be there with you through thick and thin, are people worth having around. Don't hesitate to have someone to fall back on and rely on, and don't forget to do the same when they are in need of you. We gotta look out for each other, especially through the harshness life will have to offer. Don't feel ashamed or hesitant of ever asking for a helping hand, because someone out there is willing to give one to you
